Raise your career trajectory

As an associate in Equity Research, you'll be part of a small team, typically working one-on-one with a senior analyst. You'll deepen your industry knowledge and develop skills that are broadly applicable across the business environment including analysis, writing, financial modeling, public speaking and presenting. You'll also make connections with colleagues, executive leaders across Raymond James and C-suite executives at client firms.

The Equity Research Associate Program is a minimum two-year commitment with no cut-off date. New hires are assigned to an industry group based on a combination of geographic and industry preference, plus group needs.

Role and responsibilities

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of an industry and its companies.
  • Track company-specific news and alert analysts to important developments.
  • Track industry and macro-economic news that affect your assigned sector.
  • Create and maintain financial models and perform forecasts.
  • Develop an understanding of accounting and reporting issues.
  • Write timely reports on breaking news and detailed reports on new initiations of coverage.
  • Perform valuation analyses.
  • Represent the analyst by presenting in morning or afternoon sales meetings.
  • Communicate with institutional investors, and interact with other areas of equity capital markets.

Program requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field.
  • Candidates with a 3.5 GPA or higher are preferred.
  • Candidates must be permanently eligible to work in the United States.

First-year performance requirements

  • Pass SIE exam within three months of hire.
  • Earn Series 86, Series 87 and possibly Series 63/66 licenses within first year of hire.
  • Complete a Research Associate Project. Write, analyze, establish a rating and present a research report entirely on your own.

An up-close education

As an Equity Research intern, you’ll get a broad view of the market and the business of finance, taking part in the research that shapes investment strategy and seeing how research is collected, curated, analyzed and distilled as market commentary advice. You’ll also see how financial securities are bought and sold at institutional scale at the speed of the market.

High-performing interns may receive an offer to return to Raymond James after graduation as a full-time research associate.

Role and responsibilities

  • Gain exposure to all areas of equity capital markets including institutional equity sales and trading.
  • Perform project-based assignments working with various analysts across multiple sectors.
  • Track industry and macroeconomic news and assess the impact on specific stocks.
  • Assist in writing timely drafts of reports on breaking news.
  • Assist in maintaining financial models.
  • Work with research associates on preparing valuation analyses.
  • Attend daily sales meetings.

Requirements

  • Internships are intended for students in the summer between their junior and senior years, from early June through mid-August.
  • Resumes for the next year are collected and interviews are conducted from July to August.
  • Offers are extended from August to September.
  • Candidates with a 3.5 GPA or higher are preferred.
  • Candidates must be permanently eligible to work in the United States.
