Internship Program FAQ

Before you apply

How do I apply for internship and early-career opportunities?

All opportunities are posted on the Raymond James careers listings page under Early Careers. To be considered, you will need to submit your application through the site. This ensures your information is reviewed by the appropriate recruiter and aligned to the right role.

When do applications open?

Application timing varies by role and business area. Roles are posted once approved and may open at different points throughout the year. We recommend checking regularly and applying early, as we review applications on a rolling basis.

Can I apply to multiple roles or locations?

Yes. You are welcome to apply to multiple opportunities that align with your interests. Each application is reviewed individually. We encourage you to limit the number of applications to your top three choices.

How do I know if an internship may lead to a full-time offer?

Each listing on the internship portal includes information on whether the role is eligible for full-time conversion. To qualify, you must be an incoming senior. Offers are made based on the internship’s performance and the immediate business need.

How do I know which roles I am eligible for?

Eligibility is outlined in each job description. Summer experience roles (Summer Internship, Summer Associate, Branch Summer Associate, Summer Analyst) are for current college students who have already started school, while full-time roles are for college students who are nearing graduation or have recently graduated. If you are unsure, we recommend reviewing the qualifications section closely and applying to the role that best matches your timeline.

Are there internship opportunities for juniors, sophomores and freshmen?

Most of our internship opportunities are designed to provide rising seniors with professional experience that prepares them for future full-time opportunities. We have a growing number of opportunities for first- and second-year students, as well as specialized engagement programs to help them learn more about our offerings. The best way to stay updated on new opportunities is to join our talent community.

I applied to the wrong role. What should I do?

You should log into your Candidate Homepage on Workday and withdraw your application for the wrong role. You can submit a new application to the correct role.

After applying

How long does the hiring process take?

Timelines vary by role and volume. Many processes take several weeks or months from application through decision.

How can I track my application status?

You can track your application through your Candidate Homepage on Workday and email updates. We also send updates by email as you move through the process, so we recommend checking your email regularly.

From time to time, emails may be filtered into your junk or spam folder depending on your email settings. We suggest checking those folders periodically to make sure you do not miss any important updates from our team.

I have not heard back. What should I expect?

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. If selected, you will be contacted directly. If not, your application may still be under review. If you are not selected for a role, you will receive an email notification with that decision.

What if I miss an email from Recruiting?

From time to time, emails may be filtered into your junk or spam folder depending on your email settings. We suggest checking those folders periodically to make sure you do not miss any important updates from our team.

Whom will I interview with?

You will typically speak with members of the recruiting team and the business you applied to.

How can I prepare for the interview process?

The best way to prepare is to understand the role and reflect on your own experiences. Take time to review the job description, learn about Raymond James, and think about how your coursework, past work experiences or leadership experiences connect to the position.

Most importantly, be yourself. We are interested in learning what motivates you and how you approach challenges, and the interview is just as much an opportunity for you to get to know us.

How can I best prepare for Day 1?

Reflect on how you introduce yourself and describe your strengths.

Think about what you want to learn and how to communicate that to your manager.

Begin researching your team or area of interest.

Treat the internship like a professional experience. Being engaged, taking initiative and asking thoughtful questions will help you make the most of it.

What’s the best advice for succeeding as an intern?

Successful interns are proactive, organized, open to feedback and eager to learn. Building relationships, communicating clearly and completing work with attention to detail will support a strong experience.

Program experience and daily expectations

How long is the internship program?

The internship typically spans 10 weeks each summer. Some teams may offer slightly different timing based on business needs and intern availability.

What will my first day and first week look like?

Before your start date, you will receive detailed information about orientation, your schedule and what to bring.

Is the schedule in-person, hybrid or remote?

Schedules vary by team. Many teams operate on an in-person schedule throughout the summer. Your hiring manager will communicate expectations.

What is the dress code?

We encourage interns to "dress for your day." Business casual is appropriate for most days, and formal business attire may be expected for certain meetings or events.

What does a typical day look like for an intern?

Your experience will vary by role and team. Interns work on meaningful projects that contribute to their department, meet with leaders, attend professional development sessions and engage in networking activities.

How will interns network and get to know one another?

Interns have opportunities to connect before and throughout the summer through organized communications, events and development sessions. During the program, you can expect activities such as leadership talks, volunteer events and intern cohort gatherings.

Performance, growth and full-time opportunities

How will my performance be reviewed?

Interns receive structured feedback throughout the program. You'll set goals early in the internship, participate in a mid-summer check-in and receive a final evaluation at the end.

How does Raymond James support intern development?

Interns participate in a robust curriculum of learning sessions focused on professional skills, networking opportunities and exposure to leaders across the firm. Additionally, your team will provide hands-on learning aligned with your role.

Is there an opportunity for a full-time offer after the internship?

Top-performing interns may be considered for full-time opportunities based on performance and business needs. Interns who receive offers typically demonstrate strong results, professionalism and alignment with Raymond James' values.

What is the process for receiving a full-time offer?

If your team has an available full-time role and you meet performance expectations, your hiring manager may recommend you for conversion. Offers vary by team and are determined after reviewing team needs and internship performance.

Housing, transportation and commuting

Where do interns typically live during the summer?

Interns choose a variety of housing options based on preference and budget, including university housing, apartment communities, short-term rentals, or stays with family or friends. Raymond James does not arrange housing, but we provide resources and some of our business units provide housing stipends to help offset costs.

Will I be able to meet other interns to potentially find roommates?

Yes. Before the program begins, we share ways for interns to connect with one another. Many interns use these channels to coordinate housing or meet potential roommates.

What if I don't have a car?

Depending on where you stay and your assigned office location, you may have access to local public transportation or rideshare options. Interns often coordinate carpools independently. Transportation arrangements are the responsibility of the intern.

How should I plan my commute?

We recommend researching commute routes and travel times in advance. If possible, practice the route during the timeframe you would normally commute to ensure you're comfortable with timing and traffic patterns.

What amenities are available at Raymond James' corporate headquarters?

Our St. Petersburg campus offers a variety of amenities, including dining options, outdoor spaces, fitness facilities and community spaces.
